The Aspen Skating Club has long been an important part of the Aspen community.  After skating on a flooded rink for a couple of winters, the Brown Ice Palace (aka the Aspen Ice Garden) was built in 1963 (after Ruth Brown, wife of D.R.C. Brown, a former President of the Aspen Skiing Company from 1958-1979). At the same time, The Aspen Skating Club was formed.  The Club officially joined the United States Figure Skating in 1965 after one-year probationary membership.  In 1993 the Club became incorporated as the Aspen Figure Skating Club. At the same time we applied for our tax-exempt status 501(c)3.  Its home rink at the Aspen Ice Garden has provided a base for generations of recreational and competitive figure skaters, judges and officials.  ASC is fortunate to combine a small, friendly club atmosphere with elite level coaching.  Now we are delighted with the addition of a new state-of-the-art facility at the Aspen Recreation Center, a world-class training center: the Lewis Ice Arena.   Over the years, the Aspen Skating Club has produced a number of national competitors and gold medalists.   Our membership includes competitors from tots to teens to adults, recreational skaters; Professional Skating Association rated coaches and US Figures Skating certified judges.   The Club works closely with the City of Aspen recreational program and has an active Basic Skills program for new skaters.  On the regional level, ASC is a member of the Mile High Figure Skating Association, together with figure skating clubs throughout Colorado.    Since its founding, the Aspen Skating Club has delighted locals and visitors alike with its popular skating shows.
